Insider Tips on an ISO9001 Certification Audit

An auditor's perspective of an ISO 9001 certificatino audit. We include all the clauses of the standard and 288 items an auditor may look for during an ISO9001:2008 certification audit. Examples include:

  • Section 1 Scope:
  • Tip 4 - The auditor will want to ensure the scope of the certification is defined in the Quality Manual and any publicly available documents.

  • Clause 7.5.4 Control of Customer Property:
  • Tip 213 - The auditor will want to see evidence that you have identified property supplied to you by customers and maintain a register of customer property.

  • Clause 8.2.1 Monitor and Measure Customer Satisfaction:
  • Tip 231 - The auditor will want to see information related to customer satisfaction such as goods returned by the customer, warranty claims, revised invoices, credit notes, articles in the media, consumer websites, communication from the customer and customer complaints.

  • Section 8.3 Control of Non-Conforming Product:
  • Tip 260 - The auditor will want to see that you have documented your non-conforming product procedure.

  • Clause 8.5.2 Correct Non-Conformities and Prevent Recurrence:
  • Tip 270 - The auditor will want to see evidence that you documented your corrective action procedure as this is a mandatory requirement of the standard.

  • Clause 8.5.3 Preventative Action:
  • Tip 288 - The auditor will want to see where preventative actions have been changed, or it has been necessary to plan new actions.
